Our skin, being the largest organ of our bodies, can pose some challenges for some of us when we brace ourselves in readiness for the warmer months. There may be dry skin that has built up over a number of weeks that can be easily repaired and prepared for the summer weather.

If you are one of the many Australians who experience Seasonal Affective Disorder, then you will be overjoyed to see winter leaving us and the light of spring and summer appearing.

During the darker winter months, it may have been easy to hibernate and over-indulge in a variety of foods and drink, which might seem extremely comforting at the time but
can leave a lasting effect on your body and, more importantly, on and below your skin.

A refreshing detox might just be the answer.

As we look toward the onset of warmer weather, ready or reticent... there can be advantages.

Detox boxes or infrared saunas are a fabulous way of detoxing not only the skin but the stagnated excess fluid, bloating or sluggishness that can make us feel weighed down and heavy.
Infrared saunas are unlike conventional saunas which pull sweat out of the body. Infrared energy penetrates up to three inches into the body and PUSHES sweat out of the body.

As the body is heated from the inside out, it forces out toxins from under the skin. Your extra cellular matrix can begin to clear as cells release built up toxins — a great way to begin the attack on those areas that you feel are plagued by cellulite.

You can burn about 500 to 600 calories in around 30 to 40 minutes, which should be the ideal timeframe for a session in one of these dry saunas. The feeling after each session should be one of lightness, cleanliness, refreshment and invigoration. This is your own renewable energy at your fingertips.

Infrared saunas are a wonderful way to rid yourself of any leftover Seasonal Affective Disorder symptoms. Infrared light is a healing light! You can also sit back, relax in privacy and comfort with a book, or listen to your favourite music while you burn away those calories and expel those toxins.

Infrared heat is something your own body gives off

Although “infrared heat” may sound a little intimidating, it’s really nothing new. Your body gives off this type of heat.

In fact, infrared heat is used in the incubators that keep premature babies warm. It is also the heat energy you feel when you sit on a large rock that has been heated by the sun.
Many people have infrared lights in their bathrooms — you know these as heat lamps. All they really are is a heat source that reproduces the warmth of the sun’s infrared rays, so no need to worry about harmful ultraviolet rays.

Are they safe? Yes they are. However, as with all detoxification processes, it is very wise to be aware that there can be considerations when detoxing for the first time.

Always check with your medical or wellness practitioner before commencing, particularly if you are on any medication, and always go prepared with at least 1.5 litres of water to prevent dehydration.

If you already have good health you can look forward to boasting about having that spring in your step well before you need to start wondering about how you will manage those Christmas festivities, that swimsuit or those shorts.

You can expect to pay around $35-50 per session and regular sessions two or three times a week for a month or so can really make a significant change to how you approach and enjoy the coming warmer months.
