Recommended by naturopaths and dietitians around the country, locally based Kuranda Wholefoods is quickly becoming one of the country’s favourite healthy snack brands.
Bella Vista residents Maria and Vince Peronace discovered the artisan, handmade health bars when perusing the local farmers’ markets at Kuranda, while on holiday in Cairns in 2005. Intrigued by the gluten, wheat and dairy free wholefood snacks made from ingredients like chia, dried fruits, nuts and quinoa, Maria noticed that they were selling fast, with health-conscious locals making a beeline for the stall.
“You could see the goodness in the product,” Maria said of her first impressions of the snack bar, and explained that a healthy lifestyle has always been important to her.
“I do follow a gluten free diet; that’s always been part of my day to day lifestyle so it worked well with my approach to life and health and nutrition.”
Formulated in a far north Queensland cottage, the snacks rapidly gained popularity. The rustic appearance and “glad wrap” packaging only added to their appeal.
Maria fell in love with the product, knowing it was something she needed to share with as many people as she could. Soon after, she and Vince purchased the Kuranda Fine Foods company along with the snack bar recipe, and returned home to begin preparing for the launch of Kuranda Wholefoods in 2006.
The Kuranda Wholefoods range, which has now expanded to include muesli, trail mix and a more diverse range of bars, is sold in health food stores and selected IGAs around the country.
“We sell predominantly through the recommendations of dieticians and naturopaths,” Maria explained. The products are also exported throughout Malaysia, Hong Kong and Singapore.
Maria and Vince are proud of the range which has been designed to suit a wide variety of dietary needs including paleo, vegan, low-fructose, low sugar and low salt. Made with only the best quality produce, the ingredients are sourced where possible within Australia.
The Kuranda range is cold pressed, rather than baked, helping preserve goodness and nutrition.
Now based in Baulkham Hills, the Kuranda Wholefoods range is made in their 100% gluten free factory by a team of health nuts who take great pride in providing a product which encourages a healthy lifestyle, and is endorsed by the Coeliac Society of Australia and by naturopaths and dietitians around the country.
Which is just as Maria and Vince wished for when they took on the business.

1 - Ensure that you get a well balanced, nutritional diet. A lot of people follow very strict diets but your body needs a little bit of everything to function well.
2 - Avoid foods which are high in sugar and have been highly processed. Keep your food simple.
3 - Focus on including as many plant based ingredients in your diet as possible.
4 - Exercise every day.
5 - Include a good balance of fruit, vegetables and protein from meat, legumes or spinach.
