Winter is here, and so are freezing starts to the day. It seems to
just happen out of the blue. One morning getting out of bed is a breeze, and the next I lie there silently praying that my carer doesn’t show up to help me out of bed. I feel a little immature on these mornings because they have to put up with my grumbling and complaining, but who in their right mind enjoys leaving their bed?
I’ve never been in a more unconditional loving relationship.
But I can’t complain too much about winter, particularly here in the Hills, with numerous cafés to drop into to grab a coffee or a bite to eat. Lately I’ve been frequenting The Charcoal Chicken in the Kellyville Village shops. They make a fantastic hot chips and fish cocktail. It’s the thing to do during this season — to meet up with a friend or two and catch up over hot food and a drink.
Oh, and if you’re a fan of going to the movies during winter like me, you’ve got both The Incredibles 2 and the new Jurassic Park to get excited about. I am indeed a child in an adult’s body, just in case you were wondering.
If you’re looking for other fun activities to do with friends or family you won’t have to look too far. In Rouse Hill Town Centre they’ve opened a Timezone and Lazertag, or if you’re a little more daring Action Paintball Games is right around the corner on Annangrove Road. Just be warned, paintballs hurt just as much in winter as any other time of the year.
However, if you’re like me and enjoy spending your time in quiet leisure, I’d recommend finding a park close by and going for a walk, or kicking a ball around. Fagan Park and Rouse Hill Regional Park are two favourites of mine for their long paths, open fields and beautiful gardens.
For myself, I’m going to be taking advantage of the clear sunny skies, and take my drone out to take photos and videos. It’s something I still love to do, and editing footage of landscape and scenery is one of my favourite hobbies. It’s both an exciting and terrifying toy to fly around, but I’m getting the hang of it. And it’s something I can do just from sitting in my wheelchair, so its simple and disability-friendly use gets me stoked! People around always take an interest as well, asking questions about it. It’s really cool seeing so many different people interested in the same hobby.
I do need to say that I know I haven’t finished my book yet. I’m still working on it, and I promise it will be completed soon and I hope you’ll still be interested in reading my story.
Unfortunately, life gets in the way of our goals sometimes, and that’s okay. You just need to pick yourself up, dust yourself off and keep going — something to keep in mind this winter. I’m just thankful I didn’t catch pneumonia this year.
Perhaps I’ll try for the City2surf again since I’ve been in good health this time around.
On that note I wish you all happiness and health for these next few cold months here in the Hills — keep warm and don’t let the cold get the better of you.
