An invitation from Pheona Twist, (Dept of Planning)

On behalf of the Department of Planning, Industry and Environment, I am delighted to invite the Mulgoa Progress Association to take a scenic walk around beautiful Fernhill Estate.

The department is opening a 2.6 kilometre scenic loop of the estate on weekends between 10.00 am and 4.00 pm. Those taking part in the walk will see Fernhill Estate’s lush green grounds, natural setting and historic gardens before getting an up-close look at its the heritage-listed homestead.

As you know, the department is developing a Plan of Management for Fernhill Estate which will set out future uses that align with the draft Conservation Management Plan. Once the Plan of Management is finalised, work will commence on upgrading Fernhill Estate for the benefit of current and future generations.

In the meantime, you are invited to take the Fernhill Walking Trail on an upcoming weekend, while practising social distancing, in line with government public health orders around COVID-19.

Registration is free, and the trail will be open on weekends, in the morning (10.00 am – 12.30 pm) or afternoon (1.00 pm – 4.00 pm). The walking trail will also open next Monday, 8 June 2020.

Should your visit spark any further ideas or suggestions for Fernhill Estate, you can provide additional feedback, to 30 June, on our website.

As visitor numbers are limited, from Friday, 5 June you can register to walk the 2.6 kilometre trail. Registration is free, and the trail will be open on weekends, in the morning (10.00 am – 12.30 pm) or afternoon (1.00 pm – 4.00 pm). The walking trail will also open next Monday, 8 June 2020.

Please note the estate has limited parking and toilet facilities. As the walking trail traverses uneven ground, steps and inclines, those taking part will need a moderate level of fitness, and to wear enclosed walking shoes.

For more information or to register for the Fernhill Estate walking trail, please visit planning.nsw.gov.au/fernhillestate.

On behalf of the department, I look forward to sharing with you a taste of one of Western Sydney’s most beautiful heritage properties.

Yours sincerely,

Pheona Twist
