When Gina Field first embarked on her career in security, she never could have imagined the huge amount of success that her own security business, Nepean Regional Security would accomplish.
Gina had always had ambition to become a security officer and went straight from high school into her first job as a security officer at the AMP building in Circular Quay.
“When I first started in security, there was no classroom training, you just walked into a Police Station, paid a fee and got your licence then and there. All of the training I received was on the job,” said Gina.
Gina never had aspirations to go into business until an opportunity presented itself and she decided to rise to the challenge.
“I was working as a security officer in the mobile patrol division for a large well-known security company and about a week before Christmas, the company decided to amalgamate all of the areas and disband our patrol team. One of the clients that I was servicing as part of my run area suggested that I register a business and start my own security company, so I did – I was terrified but I did.”
Gina took her ‘clapped-out’ personal car and turned it into a security patrol car and sent Christmas cards to her old clients wishing them a Merry Christmas and providing her new details. Before long she had her own client base and Nepean Regional Security was born.
Fast forward 21 years, and Nepean Regional Security is a well known, multi-award winning local business doing big things.
NRS has won 26 industry awards including an international business award, and in 2017 Gina was named the NSW Business Woman of the Year. Gina has also received Australia Day awards, Entrepreneur and Business of the Year awards and just recently, the Australian Small Business Champion Award, all of which is testament to Gina’s personal drive for excellence.
“I am big on blowing your own trumpet, because I have always said that no-one else is going to do it for you. To be perfectly honest, I was not a grade A student at school – I am just living proof that you don’t have to be an academic scholar to be successful in life and work. Hard work, determination and perseverance also gains the same results.”
